Assam: Public Stages Massive Protest After Narcotics Peddler Escapes Police Custody

DOOMDOOMA: The local people mounted massive protests and even surrounded the Baghjan Police station after a suspected peddler of narcotics was able to escape from the police station late at night. The local people questioned the capabilities of the police force and asked about how such an incident could take place.

The local people of the Baghjan locality in the Doomdooma region of the Tinsukia District had been able to apprehend one suspected narcotics mafia member and two consumers of such substances from the locality. The local people handed them over to the Baghjan Police Station at about 9 PM on Tuesday.

But at around 2 AM on Wednesday, the accused persons somehow managed to break out from the lockup at the police station and flee from the police custody. The key accused named Putul Moran, who was accused of selling narcotics substances to the people of the region, also managed to escape from the custody.

When the local people came to know about this development, they came to the police station in large numbers and gheraoed the same. They also engaged in sloganeering against the Assam Police chanting slogans like “Assam Police is useless” and “ Bangjan Police is corrupt” accusing the police of accepting bribes.

The local people raised the demand that police officials must work towards finding the narcotics seller immediately and arrest him immediately. They also named other people who are involved in the same circle. They also demanded strict action including suspension of the concerned officials including the officer in charge of the Baghjan Police station Sanjib Fulkonwar and sub-inspector Deepak Chetry.

It is important to note that the local people had managed to apprehend Putul Moran of the Goiting Village, and Pawan Mahanta and Rahul Moran from the Bishnupur village red-handed with narcotics and handed them over to the police and they accused the police willingly led them to escape at night.
